grimm fairy tale show april 2016

my art is up at three separate locations during the month of april!  this has never happened before and i'm grateful, busy, and full of smiles that my art can reach so many more folks at one time.

cabinet if couriosities at blendily, a fabulous botanical bath and body shop in the heart of the alberta arts district. 1627 ne alberta portland.

the queen bee at the grimm fairy tale art group show at the gorgeous portland'5 centers for the arts artbar venue.  there are so many wonderful artists pulling out all the stops in this show, so make sure to see it before it comes down!

recharge

my husband and i opted out of the heat of the city yesterday and spent the day at the clackamas river instead. the water was refreshing and icy cold, so we only waded up to our bums. but it was the perfect recharge after lots of projects and work related things for the both of us!

birds and bees

image.jpg

a little work-in-progress of medieval bird portraits. each one will have a bee motif. see the sigil on the knight's helmet? ah, the birds and the bees!

thousands

image.jpg

portland artist patrice demmon has lovingly created over 20,000 paper cranes as a mantra for world peace. you can see them in person at cargo (81 se yamhill) here in portland. each crane costs $1 and all proceeds benefit local children's hospitals.

home

handmade tile found near the mercer museum in my hometown of doylestown, pa on a recent visit.

personitas!

image.jpg

shiny happy personitas! my friend consu tolosa had an art opening in my neighborhood's monthly last thursday gallery festivities. check out more of consu's infectiously smile-inducing personitas here!

dragonboat

image.jpg

here is a shot of 'alea's dragon,' my completed painting for an upcoming dragonboat themed group show in june here in portland. more about the show here

busy as a

image.jpg

this week! the felt embroidered bee is an oldie, but a goodie that i made several years ago in a goodwill-found frame.

beloved

image.jpg

looking through my art, there are a few repeating images. hearts, mysterious women, and of course, bees. here's another figure i've come back to (or at least think about) time and again: the monkey. the title of this painting is 'beloved.' the story of hindu monkey god hanuman and his love for ram and sita inspired me to paint this piece.

little super hero

image.jpg

my art buddy sam yamauchi is in the process of making a series of small unconventional super hero paintings. when i visited her studio last weekend, this hero spoke to me even before i learned the title: 'really sees the homeless.'

gallery

image.jpg

there is a very small hallway in my house, and i've used it as my art gallery! you can see my sasquatch groom as well as a (very old) folky portrait i painted of my husband holding our cat simon. the goat with the tenticles is by portland artist, derrick villalpando.

art everywhere

image.jpg

art is all around if we just stop and take a moment to see. i passed by this fierce sigil a few times before taking this photo. i like to imagine it's a group if kids pretending to be mythological gods or heros with super powers. ah, creative energy!
